Day 1 itinerary- Taipei 101 & Eslite bookstore

Now we are sharing some interesting facts about Taipei 101 and Eslite bookstore.

Slide 1: Taoyuan airport in Taipei, we are not sharing about it so you can have a look at this photo.

Slide 2: Taipei 101 has a height of 508 meters. Even though it's the forth tallest building in the world, but it's the tallest Green building in the world, this is so as For each degree it raises indoor temperature, energy consumption drops by 6%
It saves 28,000 tonnes of water a year, or a 60% cut in consumption. It also features a series of eco-friendly systems and equipment such as energy management and control system, indoor environment quality control, grey water system, drinking water system, and public area lighting control. It is the biggest green building as it have an area of 148,500 sq meters.

Slide 3: Taipei 101 consists of manly three components. First is the shopping mall, food court and grand market, where you can shop as much as you want. Second, is the office levels, where people work and meetings or conferences are going on. Lastly, there are the observatory decks, both indoor and outdoor. There is also restaurants where you can enjoy the nice scenes while having a meal. In order to go up to the observatory deck located at the 89th story, we'll be taking a lift which has a speed of 1010 meters per min, so have a guess, how long does the lift takes from the 5th story to the 89th story? Well the ans is ... 37 seconds!!!

Slide 4: The damper system is like a pendulum which sways to offset the building displacement during typhoons or large earthquakes. Pretty innovative piece of technology. 5 years after it's built, it endured typhoon and the damper system worked well as there are only minor damages.

Slide 5: The height of 101 floors commemorates the renewal of time: the new century that arrived as the tower was built (100+1) and all the new years that follow (1 January = 1-01). It symbolizes high ideals by going one better on 100, a traditional number of perfection. Ok on the slides, it says expect a violet lighted Taipei 101, that's because From 6:00 to 10:00 each evening the tower's lights display one of seven colours in the spectrum. The colors coincide with the days of the week and on Sat it's displaying violet lights. This depends as we it will be violet only if we are going on a Saturday.

Secondly, we are going to share about the ESLITE bookstore.

Slide 6: Eslite is an icon in Taiwan. It has presumably the largest collection of imported books, often times even tourists visit one of the many locations to buy books they can’t get in their home countries. So if there is any books that you can't find in Singapore, consider to buy it there.

Slide 7: Eslite provides several opened book as samples unlike other bookstores, the books are wrapped with plastic sheets. Stay and read for hours and the staff won’t kick you out!

While Eslite is a Taiwanese chain of bookstores, each shop has an ample selection of books in English, Chinese, and Japanese.

The Dunhua location also has an extensive music/DVD shop, a large children's shop with books, games, and toys, and a stationary shop with cards, gift wrap, stationary and gifts in the basement. The cafe on the second floor is open 24 hours and serves good mid-read munchies.
